It is with sadness that we say good-bye to NSSA board member Stephanie Wever, who passed away early the morning of December 25, 2015.

Stephanie was born with a heart defect that required surgery at a very young age.At age 12 she was told that she would need another surgery to repair her aorta and to have a heart valve put in. With a heart valve, she was put on blood thinners to keep her blood from clotting, a leading cause of stroke.

While in high school one day Stephanie suffered a minor stroke that only affected her speech for 24 hours. She suffered another stroke while at a family picnic that went through her mouth and made part of her tongue half blue. The last stroke was the worst. Stephanie had just become engaged to her now husband.

Three weeks later she suffered the stroke that paralyzed the left side of her body and affected her vision.  She did all her therapy with one goal: to walk down the aisle May of 2007.

Stephanie was an active member of the Nebraska State Stroke Association board, lending her talent and gift for life to new stroke survivors and caregivers. She was also an active part of the Okto Beerfest held each year to raise funds for NSSA.   Stephanie’s funeral was held December 30 at Capitol City Christian Church.
