L Magazine covered the NSSA’s Okto Beerfest fundraiser on October 15.
Featuring punk polka by the Bolzen Beer Band, the reenactment of medieval battles by the Society for Creative Anachronism, and bagpipe music by Lincoln Pipes and Drum, the festival included over two dozen food and brewery booths and over 140 beers to entertain the 850 people who wandered the Lancaster Event Center.
The 22nd annual event raised $25,000 for the Nebraska State Stroke Association and its mission to provide education to prevent stroke and to maximize the quality of life of stroke survivors and their families.
Marcia Matthies, NSSA outreach coordinator, said, “The dollars raised by this event help us to continue to provide stroke awareness education to people of all ages—from fifth graders on up. We are blessed that all this money stays within Nebraska. We were very excited this year that three new breweries came to the event—one traveling all the way from Taylor, Nebraska.”
